SoFM Lecture Phase
SoFM Internship
1
22.Mar.08 to 14.Jun.08
9 Months after June

The School of Frontier Missions (SoFM) is YWAM Singapore's cross-cultural missions training component. The SoFM is a worthwhile investment in cross-cultural training for ministry among Asian unreached peoples.

The SoFM program has five objectives:

1.
Impart language acquisition skills
2.
Train you to discover the worldview of your target people and communicate cross-culturally
3.
Help you build strong team ministry skills
4.
Give you keys to surviving in frontier locations
5.
Process with you your proper place in frontier missions

The SoFM accomplishes these goals through a 12-month program. This SoFM program consists of a 3-month lecture phase followed by a 9-month field internship. Being trained to cross a culture can save you years of frustration and lay a sound foundation for effective long term ministry.

How Can the SOFM Internship Help You?
The internship enables you to experientially acquire the four skills of the SoFM in a mentored experience. After the lecture phase you can go as part of a team to the mission field for nine months to learn how to:

. speak the heart language of your target people
. understand the target people to share the gospel more effectively
. work well on a field team
. survive in a frontier location

HOW TO APPLY
. Talk to your church leadership. Your local church will play a significant role in the success of your longer term missions ministry. The best member care support of you on the field would involve a cooperation of your church, your YWAM sending base and your field leadership. Ask your mission pastor for their spiritual input. Ask them if they would endorse your coming to the SoFM and subsequent field ministry. Ask them if they would spiritually support your ministry by praying for you and helping you find God's direction.
. Contact the YWAM Singapore SoFM School leader. Do this early. Email sofm@ywam.org.sg or phone call +65-6745-9700. Share your mission goals. Let us answer your questions. Let us share possible ways how the Singapore SoFM can serve you. Even if you don't attend any YWAM Singapore training we are glad to provide missions career counseling.
. Request an application. All applicants must complete a YWAM Singapore schools application. This consists of three parts: application, pastor's reference and friend's reference. You may receive these forms in hardcopy format or softcopy (Word document) format by emailing either YWAM Singapore administration -- admin@ywam.org.sg -- or the SoFM school leadership - sofm@ywam.org.sg. Foreign applicants must also complete application for a student visa. If you need to apply for a student visa and do not already have the necessary documents and instructions, then you may email YWAM Singapore's Registrar - registrar@ywam.org.sg -- or the SoFM school leadership - sofm@ywam.org.sg.
. Arrange an interview. We encourage Singaporeans to arrange an interview with the SoFM school leader 2-3 months in advance of the lecture phase start. In some cases this may be wise to talk with your church leadership.
. Send your application early. We encourage foreign students to have their school application and application for their student visa 3+ months in advance of the school start. Singaporeans should try to have their application submitted two months in advance of the school start.
