SCHOOL OF BIBLICAL STUDIES NIGHT SCHOOL--2010!

For years people have been asking if we at the School of Biblical Studies in YWAM have any part-time course where they can learn to study God's Word and grow in Him. In 2007 we started our first part-time Night School. We really enjoyed getting to know some lovely and zealous students of God's Word. We had such a great time that we have been running the school each year since then. So, here you go, Night School 2010! The School of Biblical Studies Night School is a year long program. Each month there will be 2 evening classes (please see below schedule) in which you will be given an introduction to the book that will be studied that month. After that you will have the chance to study the book on your own for that month, with an assignment being due at the next class time.

What will be covered?

We will begin with teaching the tools of inductive Bible study, and walking the students through the assignments and what will be required for the homework portion of the course. The first week of the course will be an intensive time of teaching the tools of inductive Bible study and so there will be extra classes during that week. After the tools and details of the course are taught, we will together work through 7 to 9 books throughout the year. As we study each book in class, the staff will give you a basic overview of the book, including historical background and the main themes of the book.

Goal of SBS Night School

Our goal is to teach students a right way to approach God’s Word. SBS Night School is not another Bible study class that teaches the Bible’s contents. Besides giving a good idea of the books that we will cover, we really aim to challenge students to learn to think about God’s Word for themselves and to let the Bible’s truths shape their thinking.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:2

What’s New in Night School 2010?

For the first time, we will be offering a Class Only option for those of you who would really like to study God’s Word but whose work and/or personal schedules just do not permit the submissions of monthly homework assignments. For this option, you will still have to join us for the first week of the course where we teach the tools of inductive Bible study. The first week is essential in helping you to understand the teaching of the books throughout the year. You will be assigned to a staff member who can help you with any questions you may have. We know that you will be blessed by the teaching. However, please understand that this is not a separate class, so you will be joining the rest who are doing homework and as such, some of the lesson time will be used to discuss various aspects of the homework assignments.

Strongly Encouraged: Class Plus Homework option (Sign up for this if you can!)

For students who can come for class and would like to grow in the use of the tools of inductive Bible study through the monthly homework submissions, there is the more challenging Class Plus Homework option. In this option, each student will be assigned to a staff member who will be ‘on call’ to help the student with any questions, and will also be giving feedback on the homework that is turned in and coaching on how to see more in the text. This option is strongly encouraged as it is a tried and proven way to build a solid foundation in the understanding of God’s character and ways.

This course will run for the year 2010 and so those who sign up will need to commit to the study throughout the year. The lectures will not be opened to the public, but will be for those who have signed up for the course. A certificate of completion from Youth With A Mission Singapore will be given to those who complete the course, but there will be no credit given for the course with the University of the Nations. If you have any questions about the course, please do not hesitate to contact Cindy Low, Kim Teo or Yin Hwee at sbsnightschool@gmail.com.
