ASKED QUESTIONS What
is the difference between a Discipleship Training
School (DTS) and a Crossroads DTS (CDTS)?
Historically, DTS schools accepted all age groups
but catered, generally, to a younger group of
people. The CDTS was created to address the
special needs of singles and couples in mid-life
and later. CDTS schools offered a lighter teaching
schedule and a more flexible approach to the
outreach. The CDTS is more accommodating to
families. Both the DTS and the CDTS teach the
same principles of knowing God and making Him
known. They may have identical lecture schedules.

Is
this a DTS or CDTS?
The YWAM Singapore Discipleship Training School
is a DTS which accepts all ages and has, in
special instances, offered some flexibility
in the outreach schedule. (18 years and beyond)

Is
it compulsory for students to live in YWAM Singapore's
base during the lecture phase?
Yes. YWAM Singapore affirms the YWAM value of
community living in its DTS program. We practice
this because we believer certain truths critical
to the program's success are taught best in
this context.

Is
this school suitable for me if God is not leading
me to be a missionary or if I do not have the
missionary gift?
YWAM Singapore believes that all Christians
are "called" to follow Christ and
the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20) but
not all Christians are supposed to be a cross-cultural
missionary. So, this DTS will help you to know
God intimately and it will also help you to
discover the way God wants to obey the Great
Commission.

Where
are the outreach locations?
Outreach locations are typically in East Asia,
Southeast Asia and Indochina. YWAM Singapore
targets China, Cambodia and Myanmar. Nearly
every outreach includes at least one of these
three countries. Outreaches have also gone to
India, Thailand, Philippines, East and West
Malaysia, Indonesia and Australia.

If
I plan to serve longer-term after the DTS in
a particular country, then can I go there during
my DTS outreach?
Possibly. DTS staff pray about outreach locations
and follow God's leading in the choice of destinations
and the composition of the outreach teams. We
would stress that the DTS outreach is more to
get an overview of mission ministries and missionary
life than it is specialized preparation to serve
in a particular ministry or location.

Who
are the speakers coming and where are they from?
Lecturers vary from school to school and the
lecturer line-up for schools is only announced
to the incoming DTS class. Approximately one
fifth of our lecturers are active pastors; the
rest are missionaries. 80%+ of DTS lecturers
are YWAM staff/ministry workers. One third of
our lecturers are local, one third come from
the Southeast Asian/Australasian region. One
third come from more distant locations. Common
local lecturers include James Chan, Pastor Samuel
Phun, Jerry Brownell and Maria Broersma. Common
regional lecturers include, Jeff Littleton (YWAM
Int'l), Tim Svoboda (YWAM India) and Steve Aherne
(YWAM Australia). Common international speakers
include Paul Hawkins, Dean Sherman. Steve Cochrane
(YWAM India) and Steve Goode (YWAM Mercy Ministries).
