A Declaration of Commitment to Excellence, Integrity and Service in Christian Ministry and Missions Training

YWAM in Singapore has been established since 1980 and our training centre has equipped thousands of international and Singaporean students in Christian missions and ministry. We are one of the many training centres in over a hundred nations that are linked to the University of the Nations in Kona, Hawaii.

YWAM Training Centre is committed to knowing God and making Him known. All our courses are aimed at equipping Christians to play a significant role in the fulfillment of Christ’s Great Commission in Mark 16:15 to “go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.”

At YWAM Training Centre, we will equip you for ministry in Christian missions and your desired fields of operation by imparting skills and knowledge that will help fulfill your calling. There are numerous opportunities for participating in missions both within YWAM and with other organizations almost anywhere in the world. Our courses have gained a reputation in the region and are widely accepted as excellent preparation for such a challenging and diverse vocation.

We have employed an effective learning strategy around the following key concepts:

Competency Based Training
Since its formation YWAM Training Centre has encouraged an educational model that focuses on achieving competency specific areas of learning rather than training that is purely theory or content orientated. Desired learning outcomes drive the course of study forming the curriculum and content. Continual, consistent assessment of how the student is making practical application in specific learning areas is necessary in order to ensure that students are achieving full learning in the specific area. Thus, there is a practical component in most of our courses. There is the lecture phase that focuses on theory and principle while the field assignment phase allows the students to put into practice the principles they have acquired in the classroom.

Live-Learn Environment
The live-learn concept means establishing community for the purposes of learning. Following Jesus’ example and others from the Bible and throughout history. We work to establish a community of common values and learn together. We believe that learning takes place best in the context of relationships. The strong emphasis placed on relationships between students and staff and on small groups and student activities provides a secure atmosphere that optimizes the learning experience. It is in this environment that formal, informal, and non formal education becomes a life style taught in the context of community. The ‘classroom’ becomes a lot more than the place where students sit down and take notes. Practical workshops and interactions, like working on a project, small group activities, communal worship, prayer, meals, and social activities become channels and opportunities that promote learning and personal development.

Modular Concept of Education
We conduct our courses in modular system that enhances learning by providing students with intensive and focused time on each topic. Typically, resident or visiting teachers spend a full week or two on their area of expertise. Such focus and intensity prepares the student to work effectively in a subsequent field assignment usually in a cross-culturally environment.

Resident and Resource Teachers
Because of the modular system, students benefit from the knowledge and skills of resident as well as visiting resource teachers. Resource teachers come for one week or more to teach in their area of expertise. Some hold teaching positions at other colleges or universities while some are authors, pastors, missionaries, and other professionals. Known nationally or internationally, for their competency in an area of subject matter, these resource teachers bring richness and diversity to the student body. With the inclusion of resource teachers, the quality of the course is not dependent on one teacher, but on many specialised teachers. In addition, the visiting teachers are available for private consultation in areas of particular interest to individual students. We have 5 full time resident teachers teaching a diversity of subjects.

To create such closed-knit community to facilitate learning, our students live in accommodation and supervised by our staff sharing similar accommodation in the YWAM House located at 4 Lorong 9 Geylang Road in family and dormitory setting. This allows our students to have 24-hour access to our school teachers and staff. In the same way, living and learning together provides staff with the unique opportunities for assessing students in terms of achievement, character and attendance. Our student-staff ratio is 5:1. Our administration office and classrooms are conveniently located at 1 Lorong 23 Geylang which is 5 minutes away from the YWAM House. Lectures are conducted in classroom equipped with modern teaching aids and equipment. In less formal setting, students meet in small groups, or are placed in teams for field assignments for hands-on learning experience. Each school has their own resource library for readings and research purposes.

YWAM Training Centre aims to provide quality services in mission and ministry training, be committed to excellence and apply a biblical standard of integrity in all its program. We are committed to ensure a high professional standard in marketing and delivery of training services which safeguard the interests and welfare of its students. We resolve to maintain and observe high standards of behaviour and character among staff and students. As a Christian organisation, high standards of character and behaviour are promoted and expected, in adherence with Christian beliefs and practice within a biblical framework.

Our desire is to import to you not only knowledge, but enthusiasm and practical skills that will enable you to achieve more than you thought was ever possible. So chart your course to an exciting journey with us. Whether you are an individual, couple or family and whatever your age, background, or culture – we want to help you reach your fullest potential in God.

We extend our hand of friendship in an ongoing, developing relationship to offer our support to you as you take your next step of faith in God into your destiny.
